LSI 55237-00 RAID battery

Supermicro LSI 55237 supercap raid battery

This is a battery for a RAID controller commonly called the SuperCAP (or supercapacitor) by Supermicro. The battery is mounted to the chassis and attached to compatible raid controllers via cable.

Notes

  • Uses supercapacitor technology instead of a traditional lithium-ion battery, providing improved reliability and a longer service life.
  • During a power failure, the capacitor supplies enough power for the RAID controller to transfer cached write data to onboard non-volatile flash memory.
  • Once power is restored, the RAID controller automatically restores the cached data from flash memory.
  • Designed for LSI MegaRAID CacheVault RAID controllers and is not compatible with older Battery Backup Unit (BBU) systems.
  • Often found with LSI MegaRAID 9361, 9364, 9380, and other CacheVault-enabled RAID controllers.
  • Requires the appropriate CacheVault cable and mounting location within the server chassis.
  • Does not provide power to the RAID controller itself; it only provides temporary power for cache protection during power loss.
  • Common replacement part for failed or depleted CacheVault capacitor packs.
  • Also referenced by part number L3-00099-01 by some vendors.
